WR Immigration to Attend Biotech Week Boston’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Summit

WR Immigration is proud to be a gold sponsor of Biotech Week Boston’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I) Summit this September. As the Life Sciences community answers the growing call to engage, activate, and bring impact, foreign talent has become a crucial part of building a strong, diverse, remote workforce.  

To help expand their potential impact, companies are embracing an intentional and holistic approach to DE&I. As part of that effort, Human Resource leaders are embedding company values, tactical efficiency, and enhanced technology to improve the hiring process for foreign-born workers.  

On September 21st, Julie Galvin, Senior Associate at WR Immigration, will be presenting a virtual roundtable discussion, Engagement, Activation, and Impact in Hiring Foreign-born Workers. She will share her experience on overcoming common obstacles, including:  

  • Attracting and retaining top talent 
  • Considering timeline and planning one step ahead 
  • Staying ahead of the curve for visa and policy developments 
  • Incorporating a DE&I lens when hiring foreign-born employees 
  • Establishing HR as an anchor that supports innovation efforts  

Julie’s roundtable is part of the day-long event, which will be free of charge. The full agenda includes a dynamic panel of DE&I experts in the Life Sciences community, followed by moderator-led discussions with opportunities for interaction and networking. Discussion rooms will focus on critical topics including engaging foreign-born workers, bias correction, the future of work, LBGTQ+ workplace inclusion, and workplace agility.

WR Immigration continues to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by recognizing the contributions of two more trailblazers from within the community. Today we bring to light the exceptional political and economic accomplishments of Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Maria Contreras-Sweet. In Ileana’s early career she was an educator of a private school in Miami-Dade County where she routinely served as a liaison for immigrant parents needing assistance translating forms and navigating the complexities of the U.S. government.  Ileana’s list of political achievements began in 1982 when won a seat in the Florida House of Representatives, becoming the first Hispanic woman to serve in the state legislature. MLK’s Legacy in Our Professional Lives

MLK Day celebrates the life work and contributions of Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., America’s great civil rights activist and leader. Dr. King is remembered as a visionary thinker, wordsmith, and leader who played a pivotal role in dismantling institutionalized racism. His powerful, non-violent activism targeted the segregation of schools and public facilities, barriers to voting rights, as well as the moral fabric of a country that permitted bigoted attitudes and laws. On December 10th, 1964, Dr. King was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his “non-violent struggle for the civil rights for the Afro-American population.”      Fifty-six years later, we can still stand with Dr. King by “[using] time creatively, in the knowledge that the time is always ripe to do right.”  WR Immigration believes that we and our partners have a special calling in our daily work to live out MLK’s legacy. In the spirit of MLK Day, WR Immigration is pleased to share five ways that our firm works to promote equality, justice, and respect in our workplace and communities.    MLK’s Legacy at WR Immigration – Our DEI&A Commitment  We are committed to equity in the workplace through trainings, mentorship, and fair employment practices.  We create opportunities to celebrate diversity, “tell your story,” and practice inclusivity in the workplace.  We practice corporate giving to support organizations committed to racial and social justice.  We host firm-wide learning experiences that create dialogue and learning about bias, gender expression, and respect in the workplace.  We provide pro-bono services to support marginalized groups and refugees.
