With the recent attacks on Israel, the US Embassy in Jerusalem is urging US citizens to exercise increased caution and requiring US government personnel limit travel and observe a nightly curfew. Some companies are considering evacuation of nonessential workers in Israel. Ben Gurion Airport remains open, although there are widespread flight cancellations. Current airport information is available at Ben Gurion Airport.

India: Renewal of Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) cards

Summary of the Issue: In recent times, there has been much confusion with respect to the renewal of Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) cards. Airlines have on many occasions not allowed passengers to board flights to India if their OCI cards were not renewed when their passports were renewed. The OCI, which is given to persons of Indian origin who have the citizenship of another country (other than Pakistan and Bangladesh), allows the card holder to live and work in India indefinitely. The OCI also exempts from reporting to police authorities for any length of stay in India. The OCI also provides parity with Non-Resident Indians in financial, economic, and educational fields, except in the acquisition of agricultural or plantation properties. A person registered as an OCI is eligible to apply for grant of Indian citizenship under section 5(1)(g) of the Citizenship Act, 1955, if he or she is registered as OCI for five years and has been residing in India for one year out of the five years before making the application. February 2025 Global Immigration Update

WR Immigration’s February global immigration recap includes the latest developments on the UK’s grace period for expired BRP cards, Saudi Arabia’s Iqama work permit requirements, the UAE’s Golden Visas, and more. UK Expired UK BRP cards may now be accepted for entry through June 1, 2025 The government previously indicated that expired Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) cards will be accepted as proof of right to enter the UK until March 31, 2025, provided the holder still has valid immigration status in the country. They have now announced that this grace period will be extended to June 1, 2025. BRP card holders who have not yet applied for an eVisa are strongly advised to do so as soon as possible to avoid difficulties in proving valid immigration status –particularly upon returning to the UK following travel abroad. Employers are also encouraged to periodically remind their foreign employees to apply for an eVisa to prevent any disruptions to their business resulting from employees traveling internationally with an expired BRP card. eVisas officially replaced physical BRP cards at the end of 2024.
