To support the Black Lives Matter movement, the Firm provided four hours of civic engagement paid time off to encourage staff to participate in one of the many protests and rallies held across the country. Staff also donated money, matched by the Firm, to non-profits promoting social justice.
MLK Day celebrates the life work and contributions of Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., America’s great civil rights activist and leader. Dr. King is remembered as a visionary thinker, wordsmith, and leader who played a pivotal role in dismantling institutionalized racism. His powerful, non-violent activism targeted the segregation of schools and public facilities, barriers to voting rights, as well as the moral fabric of a country that permitted bigoted attitudes and laws. On December 10th, 1964, Dr. King was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his “non-violent struggle for the civil rights for the Afro-American population.” Fifty-six years later, we can still stand with Dr. King by “[using] time creatively, in the knowledge that the time is always ripe to do right.” WR Immigration believes that we and our partners have a special calling in our daily work to live out MLK’s legacy. In the spirit of MLK Day, WR Immigration is pleased to share five ways that our firm works to promote equality, justice, and respect in our workplace and communities. MLK’s Legacy at WR Immigration – Our DEI&A Commitment We are committed to equity in the workplace through trainings, mentorship, and fair employment practices. We create opportunities to celebrate diversity, “tell your story,” and practice inclusivity in the workplace. We practice corporate giving to support organizations committed to racial and social justice. We host firm-wide learning experiences that create dialogue and learning about bias, gender expression, and respect in the workplace. We provide pro-bono services to support marginalized groups and refugees.
Partner Leslie Ditrani volunteered in the field at the Dilley Detention Center in Dilley, TX in May 2019, spending a week preparing women for their credible fear interviews. Our Gives Back volunteers in Boston assisted Leslie’s efforts by providing remote interpretation via phone conferences for her Spanish speaking clients.
