U.S. Expands Continuous Vetting of Visa Holders

Aug 22, 2025 | Immigration Updates

The State Department confirmed that all U.S. visa holders are now subject to continuous vetting, meaning visas can be revoked at any time if new information suggests ineligibility, including overstays, criminal conduct, or security concerns. This review spans more than 55 million visas worldwide, covering tourists, students, exchange visitors, and employment-based workers that are currently in the United States or abroad. For employers, the policy creates greater unpredictability, as employees with valid visas may face sudden revocation or deportation.

Impact: Global mobility teams should strengthen compliance protocols, proactively communicate with employees, and prepare for potential workforce disruptions stemming from this expanded enforcement approach.
