BELGIUM: Annual Requirements for EU Blue Card

Oct 14, 2019 | Global

Annual requirements for Single Permit / EU Blue Card

Since the implementation of the Single Permit in January 2019, authorizations have been granted for periods up to three years. New EU Blue Cards can be issued for up to four years.

In order to track whether the conditions linked to work authorizations are kept fulfilled during the validity period, the ministries have a right to request an updated set of documents at any time.

The ministries of employment in the Brussels and Walloon region are therefore requesting for the employers to provide documents on a yearly basis. It is the employer’s responsibility to make sure the documents are being kept up to date in a timely manner. Should the employer fail to provide the necessary on time, the work authorization can be withdrawn.

The Flanders’ Region is not expecting the employer to automatically update the ministry. Nevertheless, they reserve the right to request additional documents at any time.

In addition, the employer is responsible to update the authorities of any changes that might occur during the validity of the permit (change in place of employment, function change, etc.) and inform them if an employment is terminated.

Wolfsdorf Rosenthal can file these documents and keep track of the submission dates for you.
