On September 30, 2026, Germany amended its Ukraine Residence Transition Regulation to extend temporary residence measures for eligible Ukrainian nationals into 2027 and 2028. Specifically, references in the regulation to the following dates have been updated:
- December 4, 2026, has been replaced with December 4, 2027; and
- March 4, 2027, has been replaced with March 4, 2028.
Ukrainians covered by this regulation do not need to apply for an extension of status; it will be automatically granted, so long as the foreign national entered Germany before October 9, 2026.
An amendment to the regulation restricts access to these extended residence rights for Ukrainian nationals who entered on or after this date and are subject to military service obligations under Ukrainian law, unless they can demonstrate compliance with their military service obligations.
