Top 20 EB-5 Immigrant Investor Countries

The U.S. Department of State has announced visa statistics for the employment-based fifth-preference category (“EB-5”) for Fiscal Year 2016 (October 1, 2015-September 30, 2016) in its Report of the Visa Office 2016.  A total of 8,505 EB-5 visas were issued by the U.S. Department of State in Fiscal Year 2016.

EB-5 immigrant visas have been issued to immigrant investors from over 50 countries.  The top 20 are as follows (ranked in order, from most to least):

  1. China – mainland born

  • Direct EB-5: 364
  1. Vietnam
  • Regional Center: 278
  • Direct EB-5: 9
  1. South Korea
  • Regional Center: 188

These statistics show that demand for an EB-5 visa through the EB-5 Regional Center Program continues to be greater than direct EB-5 investments.  They also demonstrate that, while nationals from other countries are beginning to be greater consumers for the EB-5 visa, China – mainland born nationals still dominate the program, with over 81% of EB-5 visas issued in Fiscal Year 2016.
