WR is pleased to announce that after 10 years of fighting, Dr. Poghos Kazarian received an approval on his Form I-140.  On January 13, 2020, USCIS approved the EB-2 National Interest Waiver application filed in March of 2010, affirming that Dr. Kazarian’s work has substantial intrinsic merit and national importance which greatly outweighs the interest in the labor certification process.  USCIS determined that Dr. Kazarian is well-positioned to continue his research into gravitational waves that may impact and help answer long-standing, foundational questions in theoretical physics and astrophysics, such as the general theory of relativity, black holes, and gamma ray bursts.

Dr. Kazarian’s case is of particular importance in immigration law because it transformed the way USCIS adjudicates green card applications for those with extraordinary ability or in support of an outstanding professor or researcher.

Dr. Kazarian states:  “I am happy that my contribution to science has finally been recognized by the United States government but am also truly sorry that my case was used to stop the best of the best from coming to America to pursue their dreams.”
