BElGIUM: Immigration Update – Minimum Salary Scale 2020

October 22, 2019

Released: 2020 Minimum Salary Scale in Brussels Region

The Brussels region has released the 2020 minimum salary thresholds for foreign employees.

Within Single Permit applications the gross yearly minimum salary level for Highly Skilled workers has been raised to €42.869 (€41.739 in 2019) and for Management staff to €71.521 (€69.637 in 2019). The same is applicable for Work Permit (<90 days) applications. EU Blue Card applicants will need to prove a minimum salary of €55.431 (€53.971 in 2019).

What are the implications?

New applications:
The signed contract with start date on or after 1 January 2020 must indicate the minimum 2020 salary scale.

If the salary slips of the last period proof a salary under the threshold, the employer must provide proof of a salary raise.

Pending applications:
The ministry is requesting employers’ declarations stating that the salary will comply in 2020 with the new minimum.

Valid Permits:
It is the obligation of the employer to make sure all criteria, including salary scales, related to the work authorization are always met. The employer will need to send yearly proof to the ministry.

The salary thresholds for Flanders and Wallonia have not been announced yet, we will keep you updated once they are announced.
