Supreme Court Upholds DACA Program

Briefing on Supreme Court Decision
Today, the Supreme Court announced its decision to uphold Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).  The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program was created in June 2012 by former Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano to protect young undocumented immigrants from deportation and enable dreamers to obtain work permits. Since 2017, the DACA program has been subject to congressional debate and review by federal courts.

In the 5-4 decision announced this afternoon, the Supreme Court opined that the Trump Administration did not follow proper procedure in rescinding the DACA program, and declared the act unconstitutional.  The U.S. Department of Homeland Security will provide details shortly about the reinstated process for first-time and renewal DACA applications.
