CBP Deferred Office Will Grant Satisfactory Departure Status to Foreign Nationals With Cancelled Flights Due to the Coronavirus

March 20, 2020

CBP’s Deferred Inspection Offices will be granting Satisfactory Departure status to individuals prevented from timely departure due to coronavirus related issues.  Acceptable reasons for overstay may include:

  • Cancelled flights
  • Exposure to the virus
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Other health related issues

This policy applies to foreign nationals on VWP/ESTA or certain non-immigrant work visas, who are seeking a 30-day extension due to cancelled flights.

Always consult an attorney if you are jeopardy of overstaying your I-94, as overstays can result in you being barred from reentering the U.S. on subsequent occasions.  WR attorneys can assist with requests for Satisfactory Departure status at the appropriate Deferred Inspection Office.  Please note that procedures for requests for Satisfactory Departure status are office specific.  Please contact your WR representative or 1-800-VISA-LAW for more information.
